The only thing you can NOT do with Microsoft products is use it without. Why is it that at the top of each Word document there is a label that says 'Microsoft Word non-commercial use'?.. Because that's exactly what it is: it cannot be used for commercial purposes. Is it safe to remove the Trial version that came pre-installed on the PC? Compatibity mode means that you are opening a doc format document in Word 2007
Non-commercial use means that you have the Home and Student edition of Office 2007
I suspect that the document may be looking for a template. When it opens eventually, from the Developer Tab > Attached Template - it will probably say 'normal'. Re-attach the normal template normal.dotm from your PC. Add a character to the text space of the document and delete it, then save the document.
Now close and re-open it. Does it open any faster?
