GUN VALUES: S&W Model 459 - Consecutive Serial Numbers
Here is an article to explain the history of these guns that I hope to get a value for. The two guns are brand new, never shot, consecutive serial numbers. Any information/advice that you can give would be greatly appreciated.
And of course the guns.........

Are you sure they are model 459? The model 459 has a squared off trigger guard.
Model 459 Brushed Finish 9mm Para. cal., 14 shot, 4 in. barrel, dull finish, fixed sights, special grips made to F.B.I. or police specs., 803 mfg. in 1984.
There are several variations of interest in the Model 459: the so called 'FBI Model', which were never delivered to the FBI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation pistols which were delivered to the FBI, the XM9 military test piece of 30 gun with its unique rear sight, the XM10 military test guns, and the U.S. marked United States Customs guns. All of the these variations have a special dull finish and matching dull nylon grips.

Yes, they are 459's but made special for the Military/FBI . I believe only 803 were made. And my apologies for posting a non Ruger gun on this site, I was told by another that I could post regarding Ruger and other types of guns. I will delete the post if it is not allowed and I will not post any others until I am find out if it is ok.

Do these pistols have any proprietary paperwork with them, such as special provenance, etc?

I was told by another to send the photos along with serial numbers to SW to get some letter. Both guns are brand new, never shot. My dad was an avid gun collector and like everything in his life it had to be top notch. He is getting old and ailing and why he decided to ask me to help him get the values of some guns is beyond me. Many of the ones he has questions about are not listed in some book he has.
As far as being sure that they are a 459, I would have to say yes. Both the gun is stamped with it (by the serial number) and the boxes have it typed on the side also with the serial number twice. (See pic below, I whited out the ending of the SN), but all the info of the gun is on the box.

With that added info, my Blue Book 36th Edition of Gun Values (This years edition) places the value of a 100% brushed finish 459 at $750, with the caveat of: Add 100%-200% for F.B.I. guns, very few released. Values assume proper F.B.I. documentation (be wary).
If it was up to me I would write S&W for an authentication letter. Hope this helps.

Even if the brushed finish was made only for FBI? Wouldn't that be a good clue it was for the FBI ? Are you saying a letter from SW will increase the value 100 to 200 %? Does consecutive serial numbers have any value?

maybe, maybe, possibly, and it might to some collectors.
Values are not 'locked in stone', geographic location, condition, availability, rarity, and desirability are all factors (among others) that come into play in determining 'value'. The 'real' value of anything is just what someone is willing to pay for it.

There is another forum that I am a member of that a fellow member says he bought a pair of consecutively numbered FBI 459s for $1250 in late 2012. PM sent.

I would not hesitate to ask $2500-00 to $3000.00 for the pair. Being a special run of firearms submitted for military trials give them both an interesting history. A letter from Smith could help. But don't get in a hurry to sell them.

Smith And Wesson Revolver Serial Number Lookup

Smith And Wesson 22 Revolver Serial Number Lookup

I've been drooling (figuratively ) over a 'Dirty Harry' Smith & Wesson 6 1/2' model 29-2 w/ PB, TT, TH, & RC serial numbered N63xxx at a nearby shop, and am curious re its date of manufacture. All sorts of references -- oldguns.net being my favorite -- for dates on all sorts of firearms, but I cannot seem to find any site/source for this Smith & Wesson firearms!
Might you direct me to a source -- other than sending $75.00 to S&W -- where I might look up/ascertain its age? (Or, better yet if you know, and will provide info to me!)
Thanks much!!!
